Tucked between two branches was the tree house. 주어가 길어서 도치된 문장이다. 자연스레 해석되지만, 초등학교용 동화에서 이런 어려운 문장드리 나오고 있다. 재미도있고, 은근히 영어도 배우는 것 같다.

잭과 애니는 2권에서는 중세의 기사를 만나러 시간여행을 한다. 해리포터 만큼이나 재미있다. ㅋㅋ

내가 쉽게 읽고 있으면서 마치 판타지 영화를 보는 것처럼 마법같은 상황들을 영화보듯이 상상하게 된다.

내가 알 정도로 쉬운 단어들만으로도 그만큼 생생하게 상황이나 행동들을 표현했다는 것이 대단하다.

Jack은 또 하나의 "M" 자가 찍힌 물건을 줍게 되는데... 다음은 또 어떤 이야기가 이어질런지^^

오스카 와일드The Happy Prince 이후, 영어원서 읽기에 대한 자신감이 생겨  소머싯 몸의 달과6펜스 읽기에 도전하였으나, 30장도 못 읽고 실패하였다. 이유는 어휘 수준이 너무 어려웠다.ㅜㅜ

어쨌든 영어는 반드시 넘어야 할 산이므로, 여러 조언을 통해 미국 초등학교 어린이들이 본다는 매직트리하우스(magic tree house), 일명 매트하를 다음 읽을 책으로 선택하였고, 세트를 구매하였다.

어린이 책이어서 그런지 생각보다 얇고 쉽게 읽힌다.

30분정도에 1권을 읽었는데, 생각보다 재미있다.


집 근처 숲의 큰 나무 꼭대기에 있는 오두막을 통해 남매가 시간여행을 하게 되는 마법 동화이고, 1권은 공룡시대를 탐험하고 온 내용이다. ㅋㅋㅋ 내용도 생각보다 재미있다. ㅋㅋ

아이들은 주전자의 물을 끓이기 위해 Rocket과 나뭇가지들을 쌓고 불을 붙이고, 잠이 든다. Rocket의 젖은 몸이 마르고 마침내 불이 붙고, Rocket은 하늘로 높이 솟아오르고 마침내 터진다. 하지만 대낮이었고, 아이들조차 잠자고 있어서 아무도 그 모습을 본 사람이 없었다.

Rocket은 자기만의 세상에 사는 공상가였다고 할까. 주변에서 제3자 입장에서 볼 때는 안타깝지만, 본인은 터지는 순간까지도 공상 안에 있었으며, 뿌듯해했으니, 본인은 만족스런 일생이었던 걸까?

이렇게 30일 동안의 오스카 와일드 단편선 5개의 영어 원서 필사가 끝났다. 해석본이 아닌 원문 그대로의 느낌이 다르긴 다르다는 것을 느꼈다. 특히 '나이팅게일과 장미'는 나이팅게일이 색색의 장미를 찾아가서 사연을 말할 때마다, 영어로 반복되는 문장이 그의 절실한 마음이 더 잘 전달 되었던 것 같다.

월요일부터 '서머싯 몸'의 '달과 6펜스' 원서를 필사 중인데, 아직 못 올리고 있다.ㅜㅜ 그래도 우선 오스카 와일드 단편선 필사를 완주해서 뿌듯하다.

오리마저 떠나고..Rocket은 진흙 속에 점점 가라앉으면서 천재의 고독에 대해 생각한다. 그 때 나뭇가지와 주전자를 든 아이들이 나타나고, Rocket을 보고, 'Old stick!'이라고 외치는데 Rocket은 'Gold stick'을 잘못 외쳤을 것이라고 생각한다.(아직도....-_-;; 이 정도면 이건 거의 능력이라고 봐줘야될 것 같다.)

달과 6펜스 원서 필사를 병행하며, 진도가 조금 밀렸었다. 오늘 저녁이 오스카와일드 단편선의 마지막 필사다. 마지막 이야기가 궁금하다!

개구리가 떠난 뒤, 진흙속에 점점 가라앉는 Rocket에게 이번엔 흰 오리가 다가온다. 그리고 오리에게도 자신의 비범함에 대해 이야기한다. 하지만 오리는 그게 무슨 유용성이 있냐고 묻고, Rocket은 하층민들은 이해할 수 없다며, 자기는 공직이 어울린다고 말한다.
